Actively seeking a return to the compact SUV market, Dodge introduces the 2023 Hornet. Much smaller and more economical than the larger Dodge Durango, the Hornet is fast and powerful for a compact utility vehicle. Unlike the Dodge Journey, which did not exceed 2020, the Hornet stands out. To make up for past mistakes, Dodge is ultimately shifting gears.
It’s sleek, fast, and attractive. Hornets seem to be preparing for past failures like Journey. The Dodge Hornet is available in a variety of models and price points. One thing is sure: Hornet is poised to take the Dodge to the top of the compact utility vehicle segment.

2023 Dodge Hornet Interior
The Hornet has been Dodge’s smallest vehicle for a long time, but it’s roughly the same size as its company cousin, the Alfa Romeo Tonale. It’s a surprisingly spacious vehicle, given its small footprint. In a recent Tonale preview, we found that Alfa’s most compact car has enough room in the front and rear to accommodate a 6-foot vehicle. There is also quite a bit of cargo in the back. We expect the same from Hornet. Twenty-seven cubic feet for GT and 22.9 cubic feet for R/T. For reference, the Honda HR-V has one of the largest cargo spaces in its class and divides the difference in the Hornet trim by 24.4 cubic feet.
The Hornet is expensive for a compact SUV but offers a more powerful engine and space than the competition. It also has a sporty interior that sets it apart from the cabins of other budget crossovers. Red stitching accentuates the black interior, and full leather and grippy faux suede upholstery are available. Basic controls are directed towards the driver, giving the Hornet’s place a focused and brutal feel.
2023 Dodge Hornet Exterior
The brand’s signature design language applies to the exterior of the Dodge Hornet. We can also see the integrated heat extractor on the hood and the post-slot style grille opening from one side. Along the sides are a matte black moulded-in colour subclassing and balance. At the rear, the Hornet R/T has dual exhaust vents, full-width taillights on both models, and a centre-illuminated Dodge Rhombus badge. The latter is the first of all, Dodge.
The Hornet R/T has 18-inch graphite grey alloy wheels, and the GT has 17-inch silver alloy wheels. Both trims are available in the Blacktop package, adding 18″ Abyss alloy, gloss black badges, gloss black mirror caps and black painted daylight opening mouldings. There is a track pack package with 20-inch wheels for a sporty look.
2023 Dodge Hornet Exterior Colors
The Dodge brand is known for its bright, intense colors and clever names. Classic colors like:
- Plum Crazy

Immediately come to mind. In recent years, Dodge has taken some of that legacy and blended it with a more modern color palette, including funky names like:
- White Knuckle
