The 2023 Nissan Versa – Specs, Features and Full Review

Still, I forgot what a genuinely affordable Japanese sedan should resemble.  But the new Nissan Versa is generally worthy of attention. Here it is—an updated version of the Nissan Versa 2023 model.  Despite the Japanese brand, this car originated in the US and is intended for this market.

The updated design. Nissan’s signature V-grill is now in the silver line.  And in general, the front bumper, the lower part, and the fog lamp inserts have been changed.  Other car updates include 17-inch wheels and new body colors.

According to a 2008 Nissan press release, “versa” is short for “various space,” meaning an interior space and configurable cargo layout.  The Versa is one of the few remaining compact cars in the North American market. Many automakers abandon compact cars in their line-ups to focus on crossover SUVs.

2023 Nissan Versa Car Price

2023 Nissan Versa review

The starting price of the 2023 Nissan Versa compact sedan is around $17,000, with destination charges expected.  The 2023 Nissan Versa is a compact sedan that competes with cheaper competitors like the Hyundai Accent and Mitsubishi Mirage.

2023 Nissan Versa Specs

Powering the Versa is Nissan’s 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with 122 horsepower and 114 pound-feet of torque, and there’s no update for 2023.  The entry-level S trim comes standard with a 5-speed manual transmission.  Versa’s continuously variable information is optional on the S but standard on the SV and SR.

The latter is standard at higher SV and SR trim levels.  The Versa feels sluggish as you move away from traffic lights and highways, but the CVT helps you avoid harsh noises by simulating fundamental gear changes.  The Versa we drove had a smooth ride isolating road flaws.  It provides a precise steering feel and consistent brake pedal feedback, making it a better drive than the replacement version.

2023 Nissan Versa Engine and Performance

Small cars are primarily meant to offer affordability and fuel economy, and the Nissan Versa does precisely that.  Shoppers in this segment are not looking for performance, but the Versa covers the basics.

The 2023 Versa has the same 1.6-litre naturally aspirated HR16DE I-4 power unit.  The motor produces up to 122 horsepower and 114 pound-feet of torque.  In terms of power figures, I think it is best suited for city driving and leisurely highway driving.  The motor’s sophistication is admirable but pushing hard during acceleration can make your voice louder and tiring.

The motor can handle gradual speed boosts, but slamming the accelerator for fast overtaking doesn’t help, and the latter also requires planning.  In terms of power figures, the sedan division averages 0-60 mph in 9.8 seconds, and the quarter-mile sprint takes 17.4 seconds.

2023 Nissan Versa Fuel Economy

Fuel economy is the most crucial determinant when buying an affordable compact car, and the Nissan Versa lives up to its expectations. The 2023 Nissan Versa returns an average of 27 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway when equipped with a standard manual transmission.  With a CVT transmission, city mileage is 32 mpg and highway mileage are 40 mpg.  But thanks to the smaller 10.8-gallon gas tank, the number of driving ranges remains the same.
